Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is the leading gold producer in Tanzania with a single operation in the Geita region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), an international gold producer based in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries, on four continents. The mine is located in the Lake Victoria Gold Fields in northwestern Tanzania, only about 85 km from the city of Mwanza and 20 km southeast of the closest point to Lake Victoria. The company's head office is located in Geeta, just 5 kilometers west of the rapidly growing city of Geeta, and there is a support office in Dar es Salaam. Position: Trainee Dump Truck Operator
Type of contract and duration: Fixed-term contract of one (1) year
Section: open pit mining
Reporting to: Supervisor - Mining
Number of Positions: Five (5)
The purpose of the role:
Successful candidates will first undergo an assessment and hands-on training program before they can be considered dump truck operators, provided they qualify as competent operators. The Dump Truck Operator role is responsible for operating the dump truck for the purpose of conducting mining operations, performing preventative and general equipment inspections, submitting work to planning, and ensuring that safety processes and practices are followed.
Ratings:
Certificate of Minimum Secondary Education (CSEE)
Valid Tanzanian driver's license class B and D or higher
Expertise:
- Be physically and mentally fit to operate a piece of heavy mining equipment (dump truck).
- Successful candidates must be able to pass the Dover Test before being appointed as an intern.
- The appointment is also subject to a full medical examination by a licensed physician.
- Main or main responsibilities:
- Comply with all training instructions from qualified trainers and equipment supervisors.
- Take reasonable precautions to protect your health and safety, and the health and safety of others who may be affected by any act or omission in the line of duty.
- Be proactive in all aspects of operational safety and work as a team member within the mining department.
- Perform security checks prior to equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions in a timely manner to supervisor or dispatch.
- Compliance with standard operating procedures and business practices.
- Transfer materials to raw material and waste landfills.
- Reduce maneuvering, dumping, and refueling times.
- Work in sync with the excavator operator to ensure trucks are loaded to full capacity.
- Demonstrate competence in operating units according to standards.
- Respond to clearance requests in a timely manner.
- Always respect the legal production instructions.
Additional requirements:
Good team player.
Fluency in Swahili, English, or both.
Be able to work with minimal supervision.
