Introduction

Senior Public Relations Officer (one position)

(REF.: EAC/HR/2020-21/47)

Grade: P2

Reports to: writer

Body/institution: Legislative Assembly of East Africa

Work Station: EALA, Arusha - Tanzania

Main purpose of the work:

Manage and implement the communication strategy and dissemination policy of EALA within the framework of the corporate objectives of EAC and the priority areas of public disclosure.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure the formulation and implementation of the Council's communications strategy in line with its objectives and priority areas;
  • Ensure the formulation and implementation of the association's information and publication dissemination policy;
  • Create, maintain and enhance links between the Assembly and the general public at the regional level around the EAC partner countries and beyond, with a particular focus on strengthening the image of the Assembly as a democratic regional institution of governance;
  • Establish, improve and maintain relationships between the Association and the media to ensure maximum positive coverage of the Association in print and electronic media;
  • Draft the official statements of the chairperson of the council regarding the affairs of the council;
  • Work with the EAC communications team to design, produce and distribute promotional materials and publications for the association for internal and external consumption and organize promotional and public awareness activities for the association with the aim of improving its public image;
  • administer and improve the Association's outreach programs, particularly for schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions;
  • establish and maintain a guest center for the association and provide appropriate hospitality to visitors;
  • Manage the content of the association's website in cooperation with the relevant officials;
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual report of the East African Community;

  • Promote the corporate image of EAC.

Qualifications and Experience:

Master's degree in Journalism, Social Communication, Public Administration or related with eight years of experience in a similar or related position, three of which must be at a higher level. Knowledge of the operations of the regional parliament would be an additional advantage.

Eligibility to apply:

After the decision of the forty-first meeting of the Council of Ministers, only candidates from the Republic of South Sudan have the right to apply for the position mentioned above.

Terms and Conditions of Service:

The above position is valid for a five (5) year contract, renewable once.

Educational Qualifications:

Related work experience:

Training and apprenticeships will not be considered relevant work experience.
