The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST) - An agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), an international non-profit organization that supports social development programs in Tanzania. It has completed a major expansion to position the institution in a leading integrated educational health and education system in Tanzania. 

As part of their health system strengthening initiatives that work with and support government health programs, AKHST, AKFT, and AFD are participating in an innovative new public-private partnership called the Tanzania Comprehensive Cancer Project (TCCP) that aims to Its objective is to improve and expand the quality, access and capacity of cancer care services in the country.

 Project partners include the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Seniors and Children (MoHCDGEC), Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI), Bugando Medical Center (BMC), Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), and the Office of the President - Regional and Local Administration. Government (PO-RALG) with technical support from the Korean Institute.

The TCCP will be implemented in two target areas (Dar es Salaam and Mwanza). The four main components of the project include 

a) improving and expanding the existing oncology infrastructure to provide more comprehensive cancer care by strengthening health systems,

 b) building the capacity of the staff of participating institutions to provide high-quality cancer care by trained professionals, and training and retaining specialized local staff through accredited programs;

 c) Promote community-based cancer care practices through the provision of comprehensive and affordable health care for preventive services, including primary prevention, screening, and early detection, and 

d) Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and participating institutions in a joint research agenda and initiatives.

AKHST is looking for experienced, motivated, and qualified staff for the following position to be a part of this exciting project:


Consultant Hematologist - (1 job)

Basic tasks

  • Design and develop ICE materials in accordance with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDEC) guidelines to be used for communication in the community.
  • To participate in various health education and awareness project activities (eg, radio and television programs, social media, and publications) that will increase project visibility and patient referrals.
  • To participate in cancer screening activities and clinical camps both in community health centers and in projects aimed at increasing project visibility and patient referrals.
  • To perform diagnostic procedures (eg, bone marrow biopsies, bone marrow biopsies);
  • To report hematopoiesis, peripheral smears
  • For the treatment of hematologic malignancies, especially pediatric hematologic malignancies such as leukemia and lymphoma.

Professional qualifications and experience.

Minimum Master's degree in Hematology from a recognized institution.

At least 5 years of relevant clinical experience

Duty station: Dar es Salaam, the holder must be willing to travel in the pool areas of the project.
