The Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has more than 30 years of experience helping governments, communities, and the private sector. As an independent, nonprofit research institute based in North Carolina, USA, RTI has approximately 5,000 employees with global experience implementing international development projects. RTI's Sustainable Growth and Resilience (SG&R) Technical Unit within the International Development Group brings together RTI's expertise and capabilities in the areas of food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R will enhance RTI's expertise in designing and delivering multi-sector programs and technology solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world.

SG&R's environmental portfolio has delivered innovative and innovative solutions in key development sectors, including wildlife crime control, forestry, protected area management, climate change, environmental policy, livelihood development economic, community participation, and the development of institutional capacities.

work description

RTI is currently seeking professionals for the anticipated USAID/Tanzania Heshimu Bahari project, which focuses on supporting and enhancing Tanzania's marine biodiversity. We are looking for candidates with experience in marine biodiversity management and conservation that will improve economic sustainability, community food security, and marine biodiversity conservation in Tanzania.

The position is subject to its granting and financing.

We are currently accepting CVs/CVs from experts with the following skills:

  • Marine Reserve Management
  • Social management of natural resources: marine and coastal
  • sustainable tourism practices
  • Management and Conservation of Endangered, Threatened and Protected Species (ETP)
  • Coastal restoration, including mangrove restoration and conservation
  • Small-scale fisheries management and practices
  • Access and participation in fish markets
  • Institutional strengthening and capacity development
  • Participation and development of the private sector
  • Alternative livelihoods and income generation for marine conservation programs
  • Legal, regulatory and policy experience (related to marine protected areas, marine enforcement, ETP, and fisheries management)
  • Communication, social and behavior change communication, community activism or awareness
  • Youth and gender inclusion
  • Monitoring, evaluation, learning, and GIS
  • Administration of Subsidies and/or Contracts


Job Qualifications

  • Experts must have at least 6 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with projects funded by donors such as USAID, World Bank, and DFID preferred
  • Candidates must be fluent in English with Swahili preferred.
  • Work experience in Tanzania is required.
